Our bacterial whole genome sequencing and analysis services played a crucial role in a study published in Science Magazine.

The research reveals that ampicillin-controlled glucose metabolism manipulates the transition from tolerance to resistance in bacteria. Glucose abundance decreases progressively as strains acquire resistance, with ampicillin initiating this event by targeting pts promoter and pyruvate dehydrogenase. cAMP/CRP negatively regulates glucose transport but enhances DNA repair, leading to resistance. Glucose and Mn2+ delay acquisition, offering an effective approach to resistance control. This effect is also observed in the intracellular pathogen Edwardsiella tarda.
